Dignitary bags handed over to pupils
The dignitary bags will be supplied to schools twice a month throughout the year.
More than 500 pupils from across Mogale City received dignitary bags in order to restore they dignity and concentrate on their school work.
Gauteng MEC for Social Development Faith Mazibuko handed over these bags to the pupils. Mazibuko said poor education is a societal problem and government has seen the need to assist and take education as one of the national priorities.
“As government we have realised that most of our pupils are not performing at their best due to the lack of basic needs,” Mazibuko said.
“We have realised that our pupils’ confidence drops when they are not taken care off well. So handing out the dignitary bags to both girls and boys is part of our ongoing Bana Pele programme, where we put our children first in all our government programmes,” she added.
The dignitary bags included toothpaste, a washing towel, Vaseline, roll-on, soap, a toothbrush, body lotion and sanitary towels for the girls. Mazibuko said the dignitary bags will be supplied to schools twice a month throughout the year.
“We want show our pupils that we take their education seriously. It is important for them to see for themselves that government is doing something for them and we expect the same from them to concentrate on their education and better people in future.”
Simon Tlhapane, Schaumburg School principal said, “We are happy for our pupils to be the beneficiaries of government programmes. Most importantly, we are happy that the MEC kept her promises when she said she will come back and donate the dignitary bags.
“We hope our pupils will appreciate the good work that our government is doing for them.”
