Owing to a lack of resources in the Mogale City Council, residents are forced to do what the council should be doing.
This according to DA councillor Benjamin Siane, the newly appointed PR councillor in Ward 24, Munsieville.
“There are obviously certain services that have to be performed by council such as roads, electricity and water, but residents must get used to the idea of doing those things they are able to do, such as removing illegal dumping and cleaning up litter. Otherwise we will not be proud of our residential areas,” says Siane.

Following a complaint from a facility for elderly people about illegal dumping outside their building that was causing a huge stink, Siane arranged for a group of DA activists from Wards 24 and 27 to meet and deal with the situation. Much of the garbage was put into plastic bags and now it will be up to the council to remove it.
Alan Fuchs, the DA’s constituency head in Mogale City commended the activists for being proactive and said as local government services get worse and worse, residents will have to step into the vacuum and do things themselves.
“We, however, will put pressure on the council to ensure they have sufficient resources and the correct attitude to carry out their mandate,” said Fuchs.
