Members clean and paint church

The church is a place of worship and where the community can come together for salvation.

The congregations of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa took time off from their hectic church duties and dirtied their hands to keep their church clean and neat.

Driven by the idiom ‘cleanliness is next to Godliness’, church worshippers spent the entire day cleaning the church premises, painting the church and the church house.

Reverend Tshabedi Lekeka, the church priest, said the congregation was happy to see male worshippers give the church a face-lift.

The painting and cleaning are done annually and the members donated from their own pockets to purchase paint. Reverend Lekeka said the occasion created a sense of unity and ownership among the church members.

“We are happy as a church to have a committed collection of male worshippers who always see the need to keep our church clean, neat and attractive,” Lekeka said.

“The church is a place of worship and where the community can come together for salvation,” he added.

When Corner of Faith visited the church, some members were seen using hoses to wash the outside walls of the church before painting.

“This is a good thing our communities must learn from, because it creates harmony among the church members. While the male congregants were painting the female members provided lunch and drinks for them. We hope other churches will do the same for the betterment of our society.”

The efforts came just in time since the church will hosting the Women’s Manyano Convention from 8 to 12 April.

“We are happy that our male congregants are sending a message to the community of Kagiso that we need to look after our churches as a holy place, and that we need to respect each other at all times,” Lekeka concluded.
