Barry Hilton cracks up Krugersdorp

Barry told the News that 2015 has been an exceptionally good year for him so far.

Comedy legend Barry Hilton performed to a sell-out crowd at Silverstar recently.

The comedian sat down with the News’ editor Janine Viljoen before his one-night-only show and spoke about life, his non profit organisation and conquering his wheat problem.

With a track record of 30 years in comedy, Barry Hilton has raised the world’s laughter level considerably. His delightful knack of finding the ludicrous and the humorous in daily situations and turning them on their head to make us laugh at life, is his signature trademark. When touring a foreign country, Barry says he is often asked to explain what type of comedian he is.

“I always break the ice by saying I am a physical comedian,” Barry said.

His face is as funny as his wit, with mournful looks tailor-made for hilarity. Barry’s gregarious personality makes him a people’s person, happy to engage with the audience before and after his shows. Barry is an old-school comedian who’s as streetwise as any youngster. He’s remained at the top by continually coming up with fresh material and by having six children to keep him hip and happening.

Barry told the News that 2015 has been an exceptionally good year for him so far.

The year kicked off for him with performances in the DRC, tons of corporate events, filming of a new Romans Pizza advert and the launching of a South African first – The Live Series: Barry Hilton on BoxOffice available on the Dstv Premium package (a 75 minute comedy special produced specifically for TV and DVD). Barry will continue to perform across Africa this year and is headed to Bahrain later this month.

Apart from his success on stage and TV, Barry is expanding his Ons Gaan Nou Braai merchandise (www.ngobraai.com) to include marinades, stainless steel braais and braai tongs with built in LED lights.

Barry lives in Hermanus in the Western Cape, and has become a national icon in a country where a new generation of comics is beginning to find its voice. Last year the industry paid tribute to Barry with A Lifetime Achiever Award, presented at the Annual Comics Choice Awards.

If you missed Barry’s show at Silverstar, not to worry, he will be performing at the Barnyard at Cresta on 5 June and will return to Silverstar next year.
