Feedback following Robert Broom petition
Prospects are good that Robert Broom will get the necessary attention soon.
In February, Lynn Pannall, DA Councillor and concerned residents of Ward 21, spearheaded yet another action to resolve congestion along Robert Broom Drive.
A petition was launched for submission to Council, coinciding with the Integrated Development Programme Road Shows.
“We the rate-paying residents and businesses of Ward 21, request the fast-tracking of the widening of Robert Broom Drive as it narrows to single lanes in Ward 21. Future development is concentrated in this area. We petition the Mogale City Local Municipality to prioritise the widening of Robert Broom to ensure a reduction of traffic congestion during peak hours, which results in huge financial losses to the economy due to hours lost and traffic incidents,” the petition read.
More than 1 000 signatures were gathered and the petition was handed over to the Municipality’s Petitions Officer in March. It was accompanied by a proposal of a phased approach to the alleviation of Robert Broom’s rush-hour chaos. The proposed step one was for the construction of a slipway from Van Oordt left into Robert Broom to relieve intense congestion during the morning peak hour.
Pannall who also is the DA member of the Infrastructure Portfolio in Council, followed this up with letters and meetings with Council’s Infrastructure heavyweights.
She can report that prospects are good that Robert Broom will get the necessary attention soon.
This was publicly stated during the IDP meeting Councillor Barry Friedman, ANC Chair of the Roads and Transport Portfolio in Council held at the Khosa Club on 7 May.
