The highly anticipated film, in which Steve Hofmeyr stars, about the murdering of farmers in the country will hit cinemas today.
A lavish premier event was hosted at Silverstar’s movies where guests were reminded why this particular film is of such importance.
Treurgrond tells the painful story of a farming community in South Africa trying to survive the numerous farm attacks confronting farmers almost every day. These gruesome acts affect not just those closely related to the victims, but set in motion a chain of events.
Amid the pressure and anxiety increased by the growing number of farm murders, Lukas van Staden (Steve Hofmeyr) tries to protect his family, friends and farm.
Treurgrond digs deeper into a world where relationships, regret, revenge and forgiveness are brought together by one circumstance from which hope and heeling rise.

Although Steve was not present at this particular premier event, another star of the film, Shaleen Surtie-Richards was. She spoke about the impact of farm murders in the country and what makes this film very important.
The raw depicting of the murders in the movie are based on actual events. Graphic scenes reflect the lack of humanity in which these murders are committed and creates a sense of urgency the country needs to fight farm murders effectively.
The film releases today, 29 May at cinemas country wide and is a multi-character narrative directed by Academy Award-nominated veteran, Darrell Roodt.
