Christo Peyper, DA Caucus leader in Mogale City encourages residents to report street pole problems to their respective ward councillors or by contacting Mogale City’s Complaints Department.
Attie Pretorius, Mogale City’s electrical planning and design specialist, said replacing a street pole can take anything between two and three weeks.
“When a street pole is hazardous, it is removed immediately,” he explained.
Peyper said, “Mogale City and DA ward councillors have a good working relationship, so if you report to a ward councillor they will take it to the correct departments.
“The goal of local government is to provide the community with basic needs such as water and electricity.”
Pretorius explained Mogale City orders poles as they do not keep stock, and only then can replace the specific street pole.
“As soon as we have the resources and municipal workers to tend to it, a pole will be replaced,” he said.
Some poles are vandalised and the municipality regards the replacement thereof a last priority.

“As soon as we replace the poles, they are vandalised again,” Pretorius said.
According to Peyper you should report it when a pole is not removed within a week or replaced within a reasonable amount of time.
Pretorius said the same procedure applies for traffic lights.
