Tenats of Noordheuwel Heights had quite a shock recently when Mogale City Local Municipality wanted to switch off their electricity.
The Heights owed a total of R900 000 in water and electricity costs.

“We use electricity meters and the water is included in the monthly cost of rent,” Andrew Ncube, a Heights tenant, said.
The contractor assigned to switching off the electricity on Friday 12 June, told the tenants they have until the following Wednesday, 17 June to “figure it out”.
On Wednesday morning, Andrew and four other tenants went to the municipality, only to find that a portion of the amount had been paid by the Heights’ owner.
“The owner paid about R300 000 and now our electricity is on,” Andrew said.
“We want to thank Tjaart Steenkamp, a DA ward councillor in the area, for his role in this matter. We feel that without his involvement, no action would have been taken.”
