Best buds bend it like Beckham

These two best buddies only bump heads when head-budding a soccer ball to each other.

Two boys from Monument Primary School were selected to be part of the under 10 Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) team.

100 players from West Rand soccer clubs participated in the trials from where the upcoming stars were selected.

Best friends Aiden Tarr and Miguel de Jesus were selected to play in the RCLFA team, which will tour to Durban in October to participate in a tournament.

Miguel was chosen from the Panorama (Supersport) Football Club, and Aiden from ETS Education Soccer Club.

“I enjoy soccer because it keeps you moving, plus it’s loads of fun,” Miguel said.

Aiden said since his dad taught him to play soccer he has developed a passion for it.

Both the boys agree that the 360 trick is their favourite but have different opinions about who is the best team in the world and the best soccer player.

Miguel’s favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo while Aiden’s favourite is Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (Neymar Jr).

The energetic sport-loving boys could not leave the soccer balls untouched for one minute and showed off their best tricks to the News.

Before stepping on the field on the day of a big match, Miguel first says a prayer.

“My dad has this special necklace. I always kiss the Jesus charm before a big game,” Aiden explained.

The boys both root for Supersport United and Manchester United but tend to argue when it is the La Liga League as Miguel supports Real Madrid while Aiden is a strong Barcelona supporter.

They excel on the sports field as well as in the classroom as both made it in the top 20 for academics.

The 10-year-old soccer stars advise other upcoming soccer players to never give up and to always do their best.
