KHS showcases talented young artists

The annual art exhibition hosted by KHS for its art pupils was a great success, with two artworks sold.

Krugersdorp, especially its youth, is seemingly a very creative bunch.

It was evident at Krugersdorp High School’s annual art exhibition where all the Visual Art and Design pupils had their artworks, created over the last year, showcased.

From oil paint and acrylic paint to air-dry clay sculptures and spray painted glass, these art pupils gave it their all. And masterpieces were created.

“Two artworks were sold at the official opening of the exhibition on 25 August for more than R1 000 each,” Lauren Jooste-Coetsee, KHS’ marketing manager told the News.

Janine Göpper, the Head of the Art Department at KHS, is very proud of the pupils. The art teachers aims to fully prepare pupils for tertiary education in the arts. It seems that art at KHS is not just taught as a hobby.

Through emphasis on practical and theoretical components of visual art and design, excursion to national galleries and museums, the young artists are armed with enough knowledge about the arts to ‘make it’ in the visual art and design industry.

The artworks that were sold off was a lesson learned about generating income as a n artist. Not only can you succeed as an artist, but also as an architect, art dealer, art therapist, curator, industrial designer and interior designer.

With the school hall filled with canvasses, clay sculptures and dress designs, one becomes aware of how expressive art really is. You can capture a moment in an artwork that normally just passes by.
