[PHOTOS] Rotary turns 75
For 75 years the Rotary Club of Krugersdorp has put service above self in aid of the community.
The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp recently celebrated 75 years of service above self in this historic town.
On 4 September 1940, Krugersdorp welcomed the charter of the Rotary Club, an organisation of local men and women who want to see to it that change is implemented in their community. Breytie Breytenbach was elected as the first president and from 1940 until 1951, all the presidents were charter members.

The Rotary Anns are a group within the Rotary that serves the club through social work and independent projects within the community.
“The contribution of the Anns to Rotary and the community are, to say the least, absolutely amazing,” president Colin Steyn said at the gala dinner in honour of 75 years served, at Usambara.
The club also has its fair share of influence in Krugersdorp, and because of this, places such as the West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled and the West Rand School exist.
The Golden Age Village and Krugersdorp Council for the Care of the Aged are also products of the club’s involvement.
The night, throughout the talk of Rotary’s successes, came to a finish with C’est La Vie entertaining guests with opera, golden oldies and modern tunes while the chocolates desserts slowly disappeared from the buffet table.
