R295 mil for N14 upgrade

Phase one of the N14 roadworks are underway and the second phase will continue on to the N1 crossing.

The renovation of the N14 highway, that has been causing heavily congested morning and afternoon traffic, is still only in the first phase of the R295 million project.

In this phase, the Paardekraal Drive (R28) and Henrik Potgieter Road intersection, better known as the Pinehaven intersection, is set to be upgraded. And according to Councillor Barry Friedman, Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Engineering Services, it has already been approved.

Friedman added that the upgrade is a major boost for Mogale City and its people.

“This is an important project for both Mogale City and road users because the upgrade will ease traffic congestion but most importantly, increase road longevity for the next 20 years,” he added.

More and more motorists use the N14 every year. It is the main link between the West Rand and Pretoria, where many residents of the West Rand go to work and on which major freights are transported.

Phase one of the N14 upgrade, which is currently underway, stretches from Hendrik Potgieter Road to Diepsloot covering both sides of the road. It is expected to be completed by October 2016.

Phase two of the project will continue with renovations up to the N1 highway crossing.

“The upgrade is vital for full economic development and will also link with Lanseria Airport, the Cradle of Humankind and the North West Province,” Mogale City’s website read.
