Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse performed Burn Out at Millennium Primary School in light of Heritage Day.
Burn Out, the international hit song by Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse played in the background as hundreds of Millies pupils eagerly awaited his presence on stage.
Screams and cheers filled the school hall.
“It’s Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse at Laerskool Millennium Primary, here to teach kids about education and a little about music.
Our pupils wore a colourful kaleidoscope of traditional clothing, varying from Zulu, Tswana and Xhosa to Venda and even Indian traditions. Our junior and senior choir also performed in the school hall,” Eugene Grobler, the school’s headmaster said.
When South African legend Sipho gave an inspirational speech about the importance of education and his recent return to his studies, the children were all ears.
“It is clear he remained humble in spite of his fame,” Eugene told the News.
Sipho spoke of staying true to oneself, giving back to the community and of staying away from drugs.
After his rendition of Burn Out, Sipho gave a short instruction on how the saxophone is played. The lulling sounds of the instrument filled the hall with a calm atmosphere.

Dr Peter Skhosana, the director Gauteng West Department of Education, Nonhlanhla Ntshangase and Derek Boshoff attended as honorary guests.
“They and Sipho agreed that the talent in our school was a sight to behold,” Eugene added.
The music teachers Marisa Smith and Jaco Breytenbach’s hard work seemed to have paid off.
After the guests had left the pupils were treated to an educational demonstration by Marisa and Jaco. They showcased their skills on the piano and acoustic guitar, giving helpful tips on how to play the instruments.
The day, according to Eugene, will have a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
