Bulge in man’s pants not his own
Car guards were always intrigued by the size of the suspect's 'package'.
Two separate crime incidents played out at a local shopping centre this morning.
Firstly, members from the Sector 7 Community Policing Forum (CPF) responded to an attempted armed robbery call out at the Checkers in Noordheuwel at around 11.30am.
Upon arrival near the delivery entrance, CPF patrollers learned that the suspects had already fled the scene after their robbery attempt was botched.
It is not known why the suspects fled the scene, but it is believed they fled as soon as they realised they could not gain entry to the delivery vehicle allegedly delivering cigarettes to the supermarket.
Staff present in the vicinity confirmed that the suspects were armed and made a getaway in a silver Mercedes-Benz C200 with no registration number plates. Shortly after police arrived.
Secondly, while still tending to that scene, a security guard from Checkers approached the CPF patrollers and a police officer on scene to request help inside the store with a completely unrelated situation.
The security guard informed the patrollers and police that there was a customer whom attempted to steal products from the store.
When members of the police, CPF and Dowry Security arrived inside the store, they learned that the security guard had confronted the suspect after he (the suspect) was seen stuffing a number of steaks down his pants on the store’s CCTV cameras.
It is understood that a scuffle allegedly ensued between the security guard and the suspect, after which the security guard was assisted by a colleague to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect was then questioned by police and subsequently arrested and removed from the store.
