Pupils care about the environment

The Gauteng Department of Education was delighted by the pupils’ work.

UniHigh’s Grade 10 Life Science pupils gave very insightful presentations.

These presentations, held on 29 October, highlighted the fieldwork and research they conducted on the parking area across the campus throughout March.

During the fieldwork pupils identified the interaction of the biotic and abiotic components of their specific ecosystem.

They determined what the impact of the cars in this parking area has on the biodiversity. The decreasing biodiversity of the parking area alarmed the pupils who then developed the Biodiversity Island Initiative for the school that will increase biodiversity as well as keep the parking area for its original purpose.

During the course of the presentation evening, Dolly Ledwaba from the Gauteng Department of Education (Life Sciences subject advisor) was delighted by the pupils’ work, inviting them to attend and present at the next GDE-workshop that will be held for Life Science teachers.
