[VIDEO] Caden’s head wound finally healed
Caden has been accepted into a specialised school for next year and will be undergoing surgery in December.
After six months of prayer Caden Slabbert finally is ready to undergo surgery to reconstruct his skull.
In April Caden’s skull was damaged when the vehicle he was travelling in, together with his father and sister, was hit with a brick. Doctors and specialists waited months for Caden’s head wound to heal and plan to put back the piece of his scull that was damaged.
“A helmet was used to help protect the area where the piece of skull had been removed. When the helmet was removed two months ago, we were amazed at how quickly it had healed,” Caden’s thankful mother, Andriëtte Cooper said to News.

Although the head wound has healed completely, doctors advised Andriëtte to wait two more weeks for the skin on Caden’s head to thicken before operating.
Caden will see a plastic surgeon and neurologist at Netcare Clinton Hospital who plan to operate on him possibly as soon as the first week in December.
Andriëtte explained that after the surgery Caden will spend three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), after which he will recover in a general ward for about a week.
“Then that chapter finally is closed,” she said relieved.
Caden recently has been accepted into the West Rand School in Wentworth Park where he will repeat Grade 2.
After nearly three months of revision work at his previous primary school, his mother decided to enroll him at this specialised school to take off some pressure from her son who still is struggling to keep up with some everyday tasks.
“Although there is nothing wrong with his brain, he sometimes struggle to keep up the pace and even walks slower after he had suffered a stroke,” she explained.
Caden is looking forward to the festive season when he and his sister, Eden, who witnessed the brick attack, will go on holiday at Badplaas with their father.
Another upcoming milestone for Caden is his ninth birthday in January, which he will celebrate with family and friends.
“We are so grateful for the amazing progress he has made in the last few months. He recently started swimming again and it is so good to see him in the water. Every day everything is getting better for us,” Andriëtte said.
