Teacher turned novelist
Local teacher turned novelist celebrates the publish of her first book.
A born and bred Krugersdorp teacher can now add novelist to her CV.
Tebogo Mosebi, who has been teaching English at the Mandisa Shiceka High School in Kagiso for the past 19 years, has recently released her very first novel.
The Rant-en-Dal resident also wear’s the deputy principal belt and said it all started with her love of poetry.
In 2013 one of her poems was published by the Litent Born Frees after she submitted seven poems.
That same year Tebogo started working on her first novel which published the following year, titled A tear in a thread.
The novel was mainly inspired by the Marikana massacre and how it affected communities, the silent partners, children and other members of the families who lost loved ones.
The story line follows how such an incident affects a child who goes to school and looks to a teacher for guidance.
Other topics discussed in the novel include poverty, service delivery, bullying and HIV/Aids, the reality of many South-Africans today.
“In life although we all live separately, our lives are all intertwined, or interlinked. There is a ‘thread’ which connects all of us. Yet this thread can be broken quickly, thus one must hold onto the thread tightly,” Tebogo explained.
She was never interested in writing fiction, and preferred to express herself in poetry until one of her pupils inspired her to get outside of her comfort zone.

One day, one of her Grade 10 pupils at that time asked Tebogo to consider writing her own book because of her ability to understand literature and how she carries it over to her learners.
This inspired her and as they say, the rest was history.
She released the book last month in a private celebration with family and friends and is looking forward to negotiations with suppliers.
