Health checks before silly season feasting
They say an apple a day keeps the doc away.
Hundreds of residents grabbed the opportunity of attending a free health screening day hosted by Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital.
In support of Health Awareness Day, the hospital offered free screenings to everyone, even if they had medical aid or not.
Residents had the opportunity to test their cholesterol while a nurse advised them on lifestyle changes and healthy eating.
Those who do not know their blood-type could not only test their type but also test for high blood pressure and their blood glucose levels, better known as blood sugar.
Netcare Krugersdorp’s Marketing Officer, Maxwell Ndlovu, took the awareness day to heart and was seen testing his blood glucose with the support of Liesl-Mari Simon by his side.

Another important screening was weight, height and body mass index (BMI) where the News caught up with the hospital’s General Manager Motlalentoa Motsoane, who was weighing up his health status.
Voluntary counseling was available at the HIV screening station which tied up with World Aids Day on 1 December.
“It is important for us to give back to the community, especially when it comes to healthcare,” Maxwell said.
Participants were sent home with healthy snacks, water and an apple; because an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
