Security guard shot

Police are on the hunt for three suspects after a shootout in Hekpoort.

An Oostermoed Security officer was shot in Hekpoort while on duty just before midnight on 8 December.

“Warrant Officer Botma received a call from Oostermoed Security regarding a shootout at a farm in Hartbeesfontein. Police rushed to the scene where they found the security officer lying on the ground in a pool of blood,” Hekpoort Police spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye said.

The 26-year-old security guard alleged he received information about a planned attack. He went to the area where the alleged crime was about to take place.

On arrival four suspects started firing shots in his direction, wounding him in the lower and upper body.

The suspects fled in different directions.

Police followed up on information during the night and were able to apprehend one of the four suspects and confiscated one firearm.

The security guard was taken to hospital where he received medical treatment.

A case docket of attempted murder was opened at Hekpoort Police Station.

“Police appeal to anyone who has information that will lead to the suspects’ arrest to come forward. The community is urged not to attempt to apprehend the suspects since they are heavily armed.”

Anyone with more information can contact the Hekpoort Detectives Unit on 014 576 9109.
