Six of the best for Dineo
Dineo intends to study medicine and has been accepted at the University of Pretoria.
Dineo Hoilejane triumphed against all odds during her 2015 matric year, achieving six distinction, which placed her in the top 20 matriculants in the Gauteng West education district.
The 18-year-old hails from Kagiso and attended school at Mosupatsela Senior Secondary. She attributed her achievements to hard work, dedication and love for her studies.
Dineo, who was active in netball and public speaking, obtained six distinctions – one in each of her subjects, except Life Sciences. She obtained distinctions in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Orientation, English, South Sotho and Geography.
“I am very excited about my achievements. I had to study very hard throughout the year and manage my time very well. I studied at night when everybody was asleep and only stopped when I felt tired,” she said.
Dineo intends to study medicine and has been accepted at the University of Pretoria. She said her family’s situation motivated her to pull up her socks.
“I always wanted to see change in my family. So I had to concentrate on my studies so I could pass with flying colours and make my family proud. No one has gone to university and I wanted to pass so I could open doors for my nephew and be a motivation for my family’s future generations.”

She belonged to a study group and attended the Kutlwanong Mathematics and Science programme in Reitvallei 2 and 3, near Kagiso from Fridays to Sundays. She said the programme assisted her and her fellow pupils a lot.
“We attended school seven days a week and I’m happy this has worked for us. I also hope that my fellow pupils have done well in the examinations.”
She could not hold her tears when she indicated that she does not have a bursary to achieve her lifelong dream. “I come from a family of five with a single parent (mother) and without a bursary. I hope the university will assist me to get a bursary so I can become a doctor and fulfill my dreams.”
School principal Banks Phatswane was equally happy and said, “We are proud of her and because of her hard work we are certain she will make the grades at university. She has been a good pupil and has been in the top 10 from Grade 9 to Grade 12.
“We wish her well in her studies and we hope that good Samaritans out there could answer her prayers and provide her with a bursary so she can complete her studies.”
