Boy dies after wall falls on him

The deceased boy's friend was left with a lower leg and ankle injury.

A 17-year-old boy from Kagiso died after a strong gust of wind blew down a wall, resulting in it collapsing on the teenager and his friend.

The boy and his friend were exiting Kagiso Mall yesterday (7 January) afternoon when the wind started to pick up. The strong wind forced them to take cover at the one side of the wall when tragedy struck.

“The wall allegedly collapsed and fell onto the two boys and the deceased was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics,” Kagiso police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

The deceased boy’s friend was left with a lower leg and ankle injury.

“The boy is in a stable condition in hospital.”

An inquest docket has been opened to investigate the matter further.
