New pupils, new principal – oh the nerves
Silverfields Primary School is welcoming not only new Grade 1's but also a new principal.
Not only did the new Grade 1’s have to go through growing pains this morning, but Eddie van Greuning, the new principal of Silverfields Primary, also has some adjusting to do.
“At least the staff are very welcoming,” he said.
Eddie joined Silverfields this year as the school’s new principal. He was previously the principal of Laerskool Protearif. He said the school’s theme of the year is ‘making a difference.’
“We want to develop each child holistically and help them become self-disciplined adults,” he said.
Silverfields Primary welcomed 109 new pupils this year. The group will be accommodated in three classes with enthusiastic and excited teachers leading them and helping them to grow.
“There is nothing as beautiful as seeing a child learn something new,” the school’s librarian, Alta Janse van Rensburg, told the News as she, like most of the educators, ran around frantically to try and organise the first day back at school.

“A lot of the children came to school on their own and some even cried, but that is something you see every year,” Alta added.
The smiling, yet nervous, faces of the six-year-olds adjusting to this new and bigger world could even take you back to your first day at school.
Do you remember bringing along your pencil from home and showing the teacher how well you can write your name?
As the first bell rang for break, the new additions to the school peaked around corners and shyly introduced themselves to equally nervous friends. Soon they will be running around and learn how to multiply, developing into “self-disciplined adults”.
