Awarded for keeping neigbourhood safe

Sector 3 thankful for the hard work by members and the support of the community.

The first meeting of the year for Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) kicked off on a rewarding note as patrollers were praised for their hard work.

The proceedings of the meeting were opened with prayer before vice chairperson, Carlos Mitchell took over with the minutes of the agenda.

“Thank you to the pubic and patrollers for standing together over the weekend when the storm hit Krugersdorp. Everyone stood together. It is truly marvellous when everyone comes together in a moment of disaster,” Carlos said.

He handed out the awards for Patroller of the Year as well as Patroller of the Month.

Joe Hughill, better known as ‘Oom Joe’, was announced the Patroller of the Year. He was described as the eyes of the sector and always is seen patrolling the streets.

“Thank you to our Sector 3 team, I could not have done this without you,” Joe said.

Abel Tshegang, who patrols mostly on foot, received the Patoller of the Month award for being exceptional during the busy festive season.

Both patrollers received a gift voucher for their efforts.

The sector also boasts with the best patrolling figures for December with an astounding 1 135 hours spent patrolling by the members.

In total these 58 members travelled 6 233 kilometres in 31 vehicles voluntarily, which exclude emergency call-outs.

“Thank you for what you guys do for us and the whole community,” Leandri van der Walt, manager at The Rabbit Hole who sponsored the gift voucher, said.

Five successes over the festive season included the arrest of the gate motor thieves who targeted a local school.
