Jannie was a legend

Stander was murdered on the same property where his mother was brutally attacked a few years ago.

Facebook has been flooded with condolence messages following the murder of a local businessman on Friday night, 15 January.

Jannie Stander has been described as a legend by his friends and members of the motocross industry.

Stander and his wife were overpowered by four armed suspects who entered their property that night. He was declared dead on the scene after he was shot twice in the chest after he allegedly jumped up when the suspects entered his house. It is believed the suspects might have been aware of the money in Stander’s possession after there was a function held at his business, a motocross park, earlier that day.

According to the spokesperson for Drift Reaction Security, Terry-Ann Booysen ten suspects robbed a property close to Stander’s house where they stole a number of firearms a week prior to his murder.

Stander was also murdered on the same property where his mother, who was in her 80’s at the time, was brutally attacked with a golf club and burned with an iron a few years ago.

“The motocross and racing fraternity are devastated by the cruel and callous manner in which Stander’s life was taken away from us and his dear family. Having known Jannie for over the last two decades, he has touched so may racers hearts,” Grant Foley, a dear friend, said.

Stander was described as a brilliant motorcycle racer who was always prepared to share his wealth of experience with current motocross riders.

“Jannie was humble and passionate about life and motorcycle racing. Many a nights where spent around camp fires with young racers so intrigued about the life experiences Jannie enjoyed as a person and a legend motorcycle racer.”

A huge amount of riders that where trained by Stander or rode at his famous Syringa Motocross Park have become South African champions and have also competed internationally.

“Jannie was a brilliant husband, farther and friend to all of us. Our sincerest condolences to Tammy, Ryder and the Stander family. We are going to miss Jannie so,” Foley concluded.

He leaves his wife and one-year-old baby behind.
