Two armed robbers on the loose
Police are urging the community to contact them if they have more information.
Two suspects, after attempting an armed robbery with two more suspects, escaped police and have not yet been found.
“The 34-year-old female and her 41-year-old male accomplice were arrested at Matshelapad informal settlement after they allegedly robbed a tuck shop,” police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome, said in a press release.
But the other two accomplices are still on foot, and armed, police warn.
It is alleged that four suspects, three males and a female entered the tuck shop and pointed a firearm at the shopkeeper. They then took an undisclosed amount of money, airtime and groceries.
Allegedly some community members who witnessed the robbery intervened and manage to apprehend the two suspects, while the other two suspects managed to flee the scene on foot.
“They are allegedly both armed with firearms,” Matome added.
Once police arrived on the scene, one revolver, five rounds of ammunition, some of the airtime and some of the groceries were also recovered. No shots were fired during the incident and no injuries were reported.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Tarlton police are still looking for the other two suspects.
“The community is urged not to attempt to apprehend them as they are armed. Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects can call the station on 011 952 005/6, 011 952 0012/13 or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111,” he concluded.
The Tarlton Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Christina Tsoaedi, however condemned the action of vigilantism saying it will not help the case.
