Racist attack hits home

A local woman posted on Facebook about a "racist" attack she fell victim to.

On Saturday (30 January) the Bezuidenhout family fell victim to what they claim was not only a racist attack but also a physical assault in front of the children that were with them.

Elsabe Bezuidenhout posted photos of scratch marks on her arms on Facebook on 30 January. The post already has over 450 comments. She said that they went to a local grocery store and found themselves in a situation where a woman “skipped the queue”.

“We told her that is doesn’t work like that. We were answered with ‘it’s my country and I can do what I want’,” Elsabe said.

Elsabe explained that the argument got completely out of hand and ended up with the Bezuidenhouts being awaited by the woman accompanied by a “crowd” in the parking lot.

“They followed us and scratched us and cursed at us. We then put the children inside the car when she hit the car’s bonnet with her fists,” Elsabe continued.

She said in the post that a security guard was present.

“How do I explain this to my children who saw us being attacked by a crowd?”

It is not yet clear whether Elsabe opened a case at the police station or who the queue jumping woman is.

The incident was shared and posted on the AfriForum Krugersdorp Facebook page.
