Woman tries to leave shop with full trolley

The woman was arrested and is detained at the Magaliesburg police station.

A shopping centre security guard alerted the police about a shoplifter who allegedly could not explain why she was not paying for her groceries.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested by Magaliesburg police on Wednesday (3 February).

“She was arrested for shoplifting goods at Spar in the Magaliesburg Shopping Centre,” police spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Phithi, said in a press release.

The suspect was caught with a trolley full of groceries valued at R1 746.

After concluding her shopping, the woman left the shop and passed the pay point without paying for the goods.

“The security guard approached the suspect and when asked why she is not paying for the groceries, she could not give a valid reason,” Phithi said.

The suspect was taken into custody and is detained at the Magaliesburg police station. The suspect will appear in court soon.
