The season of the fast-paced non-contact sport has started at the Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge.

The fast-paced super touch rugby season has kicked off.

Teams of five group get together each Wednesday night at 7pm at the Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge to try their hand at the quick-changing game. The league will last 10 weeks, after which the summer super touch rugby winning team will be announced.

Kobus Kruger, founder of the local touch rugby club, said the sport is mainly a non-contact sport that keeps rugby players fit and active.

“A lot of guys love rugby, but they are getting tired of playing a contact sport. That’s why touch rugby is so popular,” he said.

“The sport is all about ball handling and proficiency.”

On the 50 by 40-metre field, several teams from all over the West Rand competed at the second grading games. After eight more weeks, the final will be held at the lodge.
