Man locked up for random gunshot
An anonymous complaint was laid after a man had fired a shot around midnight on Sunday.
A man from Azaadville was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly discharged a firearm in public while being under the influence.
The 38-year-old man was arrested after he had discharged the firearm at around 11pm on Sunday night 13 March.
“Police received an anonymous complaint about a person believed to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a firearm,” explained Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson.
Police rushed to the scene and found the man in possession of the firearm, which was not in its holster.
The police disarmed and arrested the suspect.
He was later detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case was opened. The suspect has appeared briefly in court.
He was released on a warning and will make another appearance in court soon.
Brigadier Sipho Ngubane, Kagiso Police Station commander, expressed concern about people mishandling firearms.
“People who fail to handle their firearms responsibly and in accordance with the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 may lose their licences if found to be unfit to possess a firearm. They must also take note that their actions may lead to their firearms landing in the hands of ruthless criminals,” he warned strongly.
