Students aiding at local Husky rescue

UniHigh and UniCollege students did their bit in helping a local husky shelter.

Students of UniCollege and UniHigh put their minds and their hearts together to raise funds for and buy much needed dog food and products for the Husky Heaven Rescue in Oatlands last week.

Students, with the help of Natalie Franklin, UniCollege’s marketing manager, helped to grow the project in very little time.

Natalie told the News the students tried to do as many charitable projects as they can each year and the Husky rescue caught their attention as one of them.

At the centre, run by Brenda Meyer, there are three 30 by 60 metre running grounds, each with a dipping pool in which they can cool off. Their 10 by 10 metre kennels each accommodate a maximum of two dogs, each with a mini dipping pool and an elevated doghouse. The property owner and site manager, Lianne Dove, makes sure the dogs’ tummies are full every day.

Natalie said shelters like these need all the support they can get and the students were more than happy to help.

If you would like to adopt a husky from the shelter or want to help, contact Brenda on 076 643 1482.
