Man and dog shot and killed

A dog was shot and killed after trying to rescue his owner and friend from an armed robbery.

The hunt is on for two unknown suspects who shot and killed a man and his dog, which tried to intervene, in an armed robbery.

On 25 March at around 11.40pm, a man and his friend were inside their house in Nooitgedacht when two unknown men suddenly appeared.

“One of the suspects had a handgun and pointed it at the men as he ordered them to lay on the ground,” Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya said.

The suspects demanded money and other items from the men. When the dog came to their rescue, it was shot and killed.

The man then got up to fight back but was shot in his upper body by one of the suspects.

It is believed the suspects took a handbag from the house before fleeing the scene by foot.

“Paramedics certified the man dead on arrival at the scene.”

A case docket of murder was opened at the Muldersdrift Police station for further investigation.

“We are appealing to anybody with information that could lead to the arrest of these criminals to please come forward. These suspects are deemed to be extremely dangerous. We therefore urge members of the public not to approach them,” Ngwenya concluded.
