Two arrested who held SABC journalist captive

The two suspects, who held an SABC journalist captive on Friday afternoon (1 April), have been arrested.

According to the SABC, a radio news senior investigative journalist, Jacques Steenkamp, was held against his will by a group of men.

Steenkamp said he was working undercover, investigating claims of prostitution and child trafficking. The SABC reported that he was held hostage for two hours and money was withdrawn from his account before he was eventually released.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that two men, aged 26 and 36, were arrested on Saturday (2 April) afternoon in connection with the journalist’s kidnapping.

They will appear in court today (4 April) on charges of kidnapping and robbery.
