Man strangles girlfriend, then tries to commit suicide

A man tried to hang himself after nearly strangling his girlfriend to death.

A 27-year-old man was arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police station after he strangled his girlfriend.

The arrest follows after the girlfriend contacted the police when her boyfriend tried to hang himself after attempting to kill her.

She was on her way to the shop when she walked into him in the street.

“He then told the complainant that her socks she had been searching for were at his place and he accompanied her there,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

It is believed that a struggle ensued between the two at the arrival at his palace.

He then allegedly strangled her until she passed out on the bed.

He thereafter allegedly tried to hang himself. A few minutes later the girlfriend woke up and screamed for help when the suspect’s parents came running into the room and found him hanging from the rafters.”

She was still lying on the bed facing upwards when the parents cut off the wire from the roof in order to save him.

They then rushed the complainant to hospital.

The police were informed of the incident and the suspect was later arrested earlier in April.

The motive for the suspect’s behaviour is not yet known and a case docket of attempted murder is under investigation while the suspect is under police guard.
