Merc gang still at large

The man who was shot in the stomach by one of the members of the Merc gang is currently recovering in ICU.

A warning by police of the Merc gang’s modus operandi was issued following yesterday’s shooting incident in Roggeveld Street in Noordheuwel.

The warning follows after a man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition when suspects in a white Mercedes-Benz shot him in the stomach with no warning.

His wife was attacked by two of the suspects who attempted to push her into the car after, but she put up a fight and they managed to forcefully remove her jewellery from her where after they fled with her handbag and cellphone.

Police along with local Community Policing Forum patrollers and emergency services responded to the scene where the elusive Merc gang struck again, three days after a Rant-en-Dal shooting incident involving possibly the same vehicle.

“A general warning is herewith issued regarding their modus operandi. This is not the first incident where a white Mercedes is involved,” police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst said.

Both the husband and wife were taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Police has confirmed that the husband is currently recovering in the intensive care unit of a local hospital and that he is in a stable condition.

A woman posted on Facebook that the husband had to undergo emergency surgery.

Police are still on the lookout for the three suspects in the white Merc.

“Women who travel in the Krugersdorp area, leaving shopping centres and wearing expensive jewellery are targeted. The Krugersdorp SAPS would appreciate any information that might lead to the arrest of these suspects,” Ernst concluded.
