The News decided to compile a list of things about the elusive Merc gang which has been terrorising Krugersdorp.
Numerous incidents have taken place throughout Krugersdorp already where women are mainly being targeted by suspects driving various Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Here are the top 10 things the News summerised about the Merc gang:
1. These suspects travel in different Mercs which are possibly rented vehicles
2. They strike in broad daylight
3. They follow women home from public areas like shopping malls and centres and restaurants
4. They follow women who drive relatively new vehicles and who possibly live in more affluent suburbs, however, this has not been confirmed
5. They are armed, dangerous and not afraid to shoot
6. One occupant has been seen wearing checkered shirts
7. They may even kidnap a woman to take her to an ATM where they will possibly make her withdraw all her funds
8. They strike every second day and on weekends
9. There are between three and four suspects in a vehicle
10. They rob women of their jewellery and other belongings
Police are currently on high alert and the Krugersdorp Trio Task team has been instructed to assist the matter along with local detectives from the Violent Crime Unit.
Since there are no other similar reports of the Merc gang’s presence around Gauteng, police have reason to believe the gang is solely focusing on targeting the Krugersdorp area.
