Madam-Kay’s star is rising

Born and bred in Kagiso, this local star has her sights set on the South African music industry.

Young and bubbly 21-year-old Kagiso Motaung has her sight set on becoming the next big thing in the music industry.

Kagiso, also known as Madam-Kay, was born and bred in the heart of Kagiso by her single parent.

This aspiring artist first discovered her love for music when she joined the choir in high school.

Her passion for music quickly grew and before she knew it she also joined the Harmonious Chorus in Dobsonville.

“At first I didn’t like it because I didn’t want to sing with other people but rather alone. I fell in love with it when I realised that there are other people who enjoy singing as much as I do.”

When she left the choir to pursue a solo career she first started working with a hip hop crew, the Hard Core Rappers, where she landed the gig of leading lady and was responsible for the vocals.

This also did not satisfy her hunger for success and she moved on to work with Thato Bogatsu of Tek World Production where she recorded her first single titled My Love.

After doing various performances around the community she was offered the opportunity to become a local radio presenter at Westside FM where she was able to further her career.

Madam Kay was recently nominated in the Best Young Artist category of the first Annual South African Awards.

There she gained popularity not only for her radio voice but also for her music, but had to end her radio career to focus on school.

She was also crowned the second runner up for the Miss Curvaceous South Africa event in 2014.

This sparked another passion for her as she would like to one day start a modelling agency for plus size women.

She was recently nominated in the category Best Young Artist for the first Annual South African Awards which puts her in the running for a recording deal that could change her life.

“Music is my life and singing is my passion. I always do my best and let God do the rest.”
