Police arrest 411 in one week

West Rand Cluster members are applauded for a staggering amount of arrests made over a period of a week.

Members of the West Rand Police Cluster arrested a total of 411 suspects last week.

The West Rand Cluster which consists of 13 police stations stretching from Muldersdrift to Wedela (Merafong City) where 411 suspects were arrested during the week of 10 to 17 April. 121 suspects were arrested over the weekend.

Among these arrests were six suspects in Carletonville who stole tyres worth one million rand which were recovered during a truck hijacking.

In Randfontein a female suspect was arrest following a domestic violence incident where her spouse was killed on 15 April.

Back home, three suspects were arrested in Kagiso for kidnapping of a foreign national.

“The brother of the victim reported the case to police and the same evening the members of Kagiso Police were able to arrest the suspects involved in the incident,” Krugersdorp Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst said.

Other crimes include house robbery, armed robbery, fraud, rape, shoplifting, theft, housebreaking, possession of dangerous weapons, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs.

Arrests were also made for minor offences such as trespassing, contraventions of the liquor act and traffic offences.

“The West Rand Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi commended the members in the cluster for their commitment towards law enforcement and their efforts in bringing perpetrators to justice,” Ernst concluded.
