Body of man found
The cold winter nights seem to have claimed their first victim – a homeless man – at a local service station.
The lifeless body of an elderly man was discovered at a service station in Krugersdorp West early this morning, 10 June.
Local first-aid responders and patrollers from the Community Policing Forum’s Sector 5 responded to the call-out after a man was found lying at the station at about 6.05am.
On their arrival at the scene, they found that the man had no pulse and was not breathing.
The responders quickly began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man, who is believed to be homeless.
It is believed that man slept at the station at night and was often seen hanging around the area during the daytime.
Petrol attendants at the station called for help after the man, who was allegedly still talking to them, suddenly stopped responding to them.
A state ambulance service arrived, but it was paramedics from QRS who pronounced the man dead on the scene.
It is believed that his body was ice-cold, perhaps from spending the night on the street.
The Krugersdorp Police were also called to the scene, and an inquest case will be opened.
The cause of the man’s death is not yet known, and the body will be taken to the Roodepoort Pathology Services for an autopsy.
