Fun in the name of charity

The funds raised at the bingo evening will go towards the many charities the club supports.

Even though it was a fairly cold night, things got really heated at the recent bingo evening hosted by the Krugersdorp Rotary Club.

More than 180 players, which included the Krugersdorp News team, warmed up Krugersdorp High School’s hall while playing bingo as part of a fundraising evening on 27 May.

“The evening was a staggering success and about R21 000 was raised,” Dennis Pretorius of the club said.

Every Rotarian and every Ann was instructed to find prizes and sponsorships for the evening and goods to the value of more than R60 000 formed part of the evening’s giveaways.

“The club’s primary beneficiary, the Golden Age Village, will probably benefit most from the funds raised, since the residents of this old age home rely purely on donations to keep their heads above water.”

However, Dennis says that if another organisation approaches the club for help, their doors are always open.

West Rand native and local entertainer, saxophone player and voice artist Luan de Beer was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. He charmed the crowd and kept the giggles going with his bingo-inspired jokes.

During the evening he entertained bingo players with his sultry voice and impeccable saxophone playing skills.

“Even though it was a challenge to organise this event without breaking any of the new bingo gambling regulations, it was a fantastically entertaining event. Thank you to everyone who participated and also to those who donated prices.”
