Local actor an inspiration to the youth
The freedom to create change in the community is what Youth Day means to this local actor.
Ruan Wessels, a local actor well known for his role in the kykNET soapie, Binnelanders, and also has a handful of movie titles under his belt, talks about the importance of Youth Day.
The young actor finished school last year at Hoërskool Noordheuwel and strives to be an inspiration to the youth of his generation. “I do what I think is right. I have worked very hard for my achievements. Nothing comes from sitting around; it takes hard work, patience and perseverance.”
He believes that Youth Day is important to his generation, especially because it provides an opportunity to celebrate rights which our forefathers did not have.
“We have the freedom to make a change, freedom to embrace the rainbow nation and to learn about and respect each other’s cultures,” Ruan said.
Although Ruan has already made plans to visit his girlfriend on her parents’ farm, he said he would have loved to have celebrated Youth Day skateboarding with the youth in his community – something the actor is known to do in his spare time.
His words of wisdom to the youth are to always believe in themselves.
“Work hard; dreams come true when you believe in yourself and put in some effort to reach them. Happy Youth Day, Krugersdorp.”
