Two jailbirds die of overdoses

Two young men die following drug overdoses at Correctional Services last week.

Two convicts died of drug overdoses at the Krugersdorp prison last week.

Relatives of one of the deceased received an upsetting phone call informing them that their 25-year-old family member had passed away on Wednesday last week.

The family, which has an informant inside the Krugersdorp Correctional Services, was allegedly told that the relative and another prisoner had both died of drug overdoses.

It is believed they may have injected Tik at the time of their death. Tik is another name for the drug known as Crystal Meth. Other rumours suggest that they may even have injected washing powder.

It is believed that drugs are easy accessible inside the prison. Apparently, drugs wrapped in big plastic balls are thrown over the walls of the prison.

The deceased was convicted of crimes including being in possession of drugs and theft and was serving a two-year sentence.

The News contacted the Krugersdorp Correctional Services spokesperson for comment regarding the incident, but was referred to the area commissioner.

A relative of the deceased will comment on the incident in due course.
