Woman goes into labour on side of the road

A woman went into active labour at the Lion Park crossing.

EMER-G-MED paramedics were called to the scene when a woman went into labour at the Lion Park crossing (the intersection of the R114 and Malibongwe Drive in Nietgedacht) during the afternoon of Monday, 20 June.

They arrived to find the woman in active labour, and quickly prepared the necessary equipment to deliver the baby, while a passing ambulance was flagged down by concerned bystanders.

The woman was loaded into the ambulance, which was on its way back to Thabazimbi following an inter-hospital transfer, and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The woman and her baby, who were both in a stable condition, were then transferred to the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital for further observation.
