Playing sports to fight crime
Locals brave the cold to learn and play on Youth Day.
The West Rand Cluster hosted a sporting event on Wednesday, 15 June, in Mohlakeng. The purpose of the event, named Sports Against Crime, was to make the community aware of the criminal activities that take place in the area.
The Mogale City and West Rand District Municipalities, as part of the Ntirhisano project, sponsored the trophies and sporting kits that were given to the winning teams.
Approximately 300 community members attended the event, most of them in their school uniforms to commemorate Youth Day.

The main sports played on the day were netball and soccer, with five netball teams and seven soccer teams participating.
The Mohlakeng team was crowned the soccer champs, while the Brothers Club A team were the netball winners.
Brigadier Mashole Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander encouraged the youth at the event to participate in sport and keep away from crime.
