Runaway bull found in CBD

A runaway bull was sedated after it made a run for it in the streets of Krugersdorp during the weekend.

The patrollers of Sector 5’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) had their hands full after a bull escaped from a local auction yard.

The action at the weekly Tarlton Auction, situated close to the Krugersdorp Game Reserve, quickly escalated on Saturday, 2 July, after a bull escaped from a trailer and decided to take the high road towards Krugersdorp’s CBD.

Witnesses and members of the Sector 5 CPF quickly gave chase and followed the young bull which made its way down Luipaard Street towards the Burgershoop Cemetery.

Vehicles were swerving left and right as the overwhelmed bull ran into oncoming traffic with a trail of vehicles behind it. The bull saw red when one of the patrollers had to make a quick u-turn in her red double-cab bakkie.

The bull was finally surrounded on the sports field opposite the cemetery, and was shot with a tranquiliser arrow. It collapsed to the ground within five minutes.

The owner of the bull had to fork out R1 500 for the sedation, and was warned that the bull may not be slaughtered within the next three months.

“Thank you so much to everyone who assisted in the safe capture of the animal and helped with traffic control,” said one of the patrollers, Elizabeth Swanepoel.
