The law of determination pays off

Local police administrator juggled work, life and a law degree.

Ten years of hard work, determination and having two children have paid off for this member of the police, who recently obtained her Bachelors’ degree in law.

Motshewa Jemina Genge, a 39-year-old mother of three, joined the South African Police Service as part of its administrative team in 2006, and was transferred to the Krugersdorp Police Station in 2012.

She started studying for her degree in 2005 and has been juggling work, a marriage and her children, all while completing her degree on a part time basis at Unisa. She completed her studies in 2015.

This degree will add value to her work in terms of legal investigations since she works hand-in-hand with state attorneys.

Her biggest challenge during the past 10 years was raising her two babies, which meant that she sometimes only had time to work on her studies at night, after her family had been attended to.

“It has been a great challenge at times,” she admits.

But as they say, with hard work and determination comes rewards, one of which is a cash bonus she will receive from the police for completing her degree.

“Thank you to everybody for their support during this time – my husband, family, friends and the police management. I am looking forward to using my education in my work for the police service.”

Jemina is planning to enroll for her Honours degree in 2017.
