A different kind of leadership for Maropeng
Matanzima Pae brings his passion for leadership to create new leaders at Maropeng.
With over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry under his belt, Matanzima Pae knows his story, and he is about to prove his worth in his position as the general manager of operations at the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site visitors’ centre at Maropeng a Afrika.
Born in Lesotho, this father of three has served in several different countries and roles in the hospitality industry. His career dates back to 1985, when he was part of the food and beverage management team at the Lesotho Sun International Hotel.
He did not only grow in rank and experience, he remained faithful to the hospitality industry. In 1992, still with the Sun International Hotel Group, he was part of the team that opened a new restaurant and trained and developed staff in Namibia. Matanzima was so dedicated to his trade that he stayed in Namibia for five years, where he later worked for a privately-owned hotel as deputy general manager.
Upon moving to South Africa, he continued his relationship with Sun International in different provinces. He can now be referred to as a businessman, because he and his wife own a guest house in Kuilsriver. With a resumé like his, it is clear where his passion lies.
“I am passionate about leadership and raising leaders who will raise leaders in the retail and hospitality industry,” he told the News.
He emphasises that his legacy will be that of empowerment and economic equality.
He comes highly-trained as well, with a diploma in human resources management, a certificate in food and beverage management and an advanced training course completed through a Swiss hotel school, among other qualifications – proof that he can walk his talk.
He says that his favorite thing about the West Rand is its multi-faceted culture and its potential to re-invent itself.
“I see hope here and I am privileged to be a part of the positive change on the West Rand,” he said.
