Cops and choppers respond to Chelsea Street
Three suspects are still at large after an armed robbery and two attempted hijackings this morning.
An small army of police vehicles and a police helicopter were deployed to Chelsea Avenue, Silverfields, following an armed robbery and hijacking incident on the morning of 14 July.
At the crime scene, a number of police vehicles, plus a high-risk unit from the armed response company, Dowry, stood in a row in Chelsea Street where one of four suspects were apprehended.
Five police vehicles from Krugersdorp, the Gauteng Railway Police, the Social Crime Unit and the K9 Unit responded to the incident.
One of the witnesses told the News that four armed suspects allegedly robbed a neighbour in Ivan Smuts Avenue at about 7am. After fleeing from the first house, the suspects continued on their crime spree and jumped numerous walls to escape. They allegedly also attempted to hijacked two vehicles before fleeing in different directions.
A few houses further down the road, one of the suspects ran into a property. The owners trapped him and called for back-up. Patrollers from the Sector 8 Community Policing Forum later apprehended him.
The police helicopter hovered overhead, looking for the remaining three suspects, who are still at large.
