Acne: your skin’s way of communicating
Thanks to the art of face-mapping, you can pinpoint the cause of your latest outbreak.
Face mapping, which is a Chinese tradition, connects an area on your face to an organ in your body in order to explain the blemishes on your face.
There is nothing more frustrating than spending hundreds of rands on skincare products, only to have your skin continue to break out. According to Michael Shapiro, a dermatologist and founder of Vanguard Dermatology, a good skincare regimen can get rid of simple pimples, but in order to banish the really bad ‘zits’, you have to heal the underlying condition first.
Here is a list of possible reasons for an acne breakout:
1. If you have acne along your jawline, you might need to get your hormones checked, as pimples along the lower cheeks and jawline can be indicative of hormonal imbalances.
2. If you have small pimples on your nose and cheeks, you may need to de-stress.
3. If you have huge, painful acne spots around your nose, you may need antibiotics, as pustules around the nose can signal a gram-negative bacterial infection.
4. If you have acne along the edge of your face, try to avoid touching your face. Friction acne is caused by things like hats, scarves, hair, jewellery and even your phone irritating your skin.
5. If your face breaks out every month, the week before your period, your break-outs are most likely triggered by hormones.
