Cop killers get life
The two murderers will serve life sentences for kidnapping and killing a cop.
Justice was served for the late Thabo Abednigo Mahlaba when his two killers were sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this week.
Aaron Simpiwe Zondi, 38, and Ndumiso Goodman Magubane, 31, were sentenced in the High Court on 13 July after kidnapping and murdering Mahlaba, a member of the police, in 2014.
Mahlaba was last seen at an Absa Bank in Krugersdorp on 5 June 2014. His body was discovered in a mine shaft near the R41 in Randfontein on 18 June 2014.
The two convicted felons faced charges which included kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and murder.
It is believed that Zondi and Magubane followed Mahlaba, jumped him from behind, and forced him into a vehicle. They then unlawfully assaulted Mahlaba with the intent to rob, took R5 000 in cash from him, murdered him and dumped his body. The duo also stole Mahlaba’s bank cards and withdrew a further R250 from his account.
Zondi’s confession and other objective evidence assisted the State in securing the sentences of life imprisonment.
