Four men were sentenced on charges of robbery in the Kagiso Regional Court on Thursday, 14 July.
More than a year ago, the four, armed with a hammer and a firearm, broke into a house, assaulted the resident and ransacked his home.
The accused stole goods to the value of R100 000 plus the victim’s bank cards and forced the victim to reveal his PIN code. After the robbery, they proceeded to the bank to withdraw the victim’s money.
Mandla Dlamini (22), Theo Mpiyane (22) and Simon Ncoseka (21) were each sentenced to 15 years in jail while the fourth accused, Jansen Phakathi (22) – said to be the ring leader who carried the gun during the robbery – was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.
The station commander at the Kagiso Police Station, Brigadier Sipho Ngubane, congratulated the investigating officer, detective Constable Moses Semosa on his efforts.
